Key Responsibilities
The Journeyman Mechanic is responsible for servicing / repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses.
- Ongoing maintenance / repair of buses
- Diagnose equipment problems
- CVIP Inspections
- Respond to breakdowns
- Spring and winter maintenance
- Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
- Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
- Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
Requirements
- Journeyperson Mechanic ticket (Heavy Duty or Automotive)
- Engine repair experience desired
- Own hand tools
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- 2 - 5 years related experience
- Valid Driver's Licence (Class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
- CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
- Previous Lead Hand experience considered an asset
- Previous experience working with buses is preferred
- Exposure to working on diesel engines
- Ability to comprehend / operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools, including micrometers, brake drum gauge, Ohmmeters, and AVR (Amps, Volts & Resistors)
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Computer proficiency
- Willingness to mentor Apprentices
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at once
Remuneration
- Commensurate with experience
- Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
