Position Summary :
The Payroll Accountant will support the Finance Department by managing full-cycle accounts payable, payroll, and employee benefits.
This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements, and supporting various accounting functions within the organization.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the CFO, Senior Accountant, and other team members, while interacting with various external stakeholders such as suppliers, benefit providers, and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities :
Accounts Payable :
- Match supplier invoices to purchase orders and receiving reports
- Obtain approvals for invoices and ensure proper coding
- Enter invoices into the accounting system
- Process cheque runs, prepare cheques, and ensure timely payments
- Set up wires and ACH payments
- File paid supplier invoices and handle supplier inquiries
Payroll & Benefits :
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll for hourly employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Act as a back-up for bi-weekly salaried payroll
- Enroll new employees and terminate former employees in the company’s benefit plans
- Prepare payroll and benefit remittances and submit them in a timely manner
- Prepare and submit Records of Employment (ROEs) as needed
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits matters
Banking & Reconciliations :
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Deposit cheques and maintain accurate banking records
- Reconcile sub-ledgers for cash, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Prepare month-end accrued payables and update currency rates in the ERP system
General Accounting Support :
- Assist with month-end closing and preparation of financial reports
- Cross-train with other accounting staff to cover additional functions as needed, such as A / R invoicing, rebate, and commission calculations
- Support the Accounting Manager and CFO in any ad hoc financial analysis and special projects
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Payroll and Benefits, with additional experience in Accounts Payable preferred
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in accounting software, with Sage 300 and SAP Business One preferred
- Experience in Canadian and US payroll is an asset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
