JOB TITLE : Part Time Elementary Floating Teacher
JOB SUMMARY
The Floating Teacher at the Cultural Immersion school will support and collaborate with classroom Teachers and Language Instructors / Teachers to plan, organize, and implement a culturally appropriate education program which guides and encourages students to develop and progress academically, emotionally, mentally, and socially.
SUPPORTS NEEDED
- Support planning, preparation, and delivery of instructional activities following BC Curricular Content and Competencies as set out by the Ministry of Education for BC
- Manage time between grade specific instruction and class combined instruction as needed
- Instruct and support in multiple classrooms throughout the day as needed.
- Assist and team teach with Language and Culture programming, as needed
- Assist with Physical / Health Education and Musical instruction when required
- Collaborate with fellow teachers on Smart Goals, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIPs), report cards, and interim reports
- Identify ways to help and support student learning through intervention strategies
- Prepare and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) and Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIP’s), maintain records and progress reports
- Integrate students with behaviour or academic challenges in a positive and respectful manner
- Support assessment of student progress and make recommendations for program changes, ensuring IEP goals are met
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
- Provide feedback on student work; follow up on work missed due to absences
- Supervision duties in the classroom, field trips, and as required before / after school, and a recess / lunch
- Be a positive role model for behaviour and practice respectful student / adult interactions
- Implement positive discipline when required; conflict management of student incidents
- Ensure children have a safe and secure environment
- All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties
- Perform other duties as required
ADMINITRATIVE DUTIES
- Support the Classroom Teachers with preparation of yearly overviews for each subject area, including pacing, competencies, content, and assessment
- Develop day plans, having the next 2 days planned and prepared as needed
- Support to monitor, record, and report on student progress and attendance
- Completing other necessary reports such as First Aid, accident, and behavioural incident reports
- Review student files
- Keep informed of current trends for students with learning or behaviour challenges
- Follow all guidelines as outlined in the Cultural Immersion School Parent-Teacher Handbook and Staff Handbook
- Communicate with parents as needed
- Participate in school-wide staff meetings, professional development, & training and school-based team meetings
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures
- Participate in community and school events as directed and requested

Education
- Bachelor of Education, or equivalent
- Valid BC teaching certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch, or in process of attaining
- Current First Aid / CPR certificate or willing to obtain
Experience
- Demonstrated ability to teach at an elementary level
- Ability to teach multi-grade classes and team teach all classes within the school (grades K5-G7)
- Experience working with First Nations preferred

- An interest in the Okanagan Language and traditional practices, and willingness to speak the Okanagan language in the classroom
- Knowledge and skill in computers, specifically MS Word and MS Excel

$60, $82, per annum dependent on education and experience
