CHI310H5 S Chinese for Career Development

Course description :

This course is designed for near-native or native speakers of Mandarin Chinese who are interested in advancing their careers in Chinese-speaking regions and in North America.

Students will develop knowledge in career planning from cross-cultural perspectives, from job search, to applications and interview processes in Chinese-speaking regions of Asia and in North America.

They will build a solid foundation for reading, writing, and speaking Chinese in a business setting.

Class schedule : Wednesdays 6 : 00pm - 9 : 00pm and Thursdays 11 : 00am - 2 : 00pm

NOTE : The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be in-person . However, if this changes for any reason, you will be provided with as much advance notice as practicable.

Sessional dates of appointment : January 1, 202 to April 30, 2025

Salary :

Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications :

Ph.D. in Chinese literature, linguistics, or a related field is required.

Demonstrated knowledge in the area of Chinese culture and experience teaching university-level Chinese language or culture courses are required.

Near-)native fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required.

Preferred qualifications :

Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14 : 12.

Description of duties :

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content;
  • out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments,tests and exams;

calculation and submission of grades; order all necessary readings.
