Description
The Social Services Aide work diligently to secure suitable housing options for those in need. They engage with landlords to find appropriate housing options for chronically homeless individuals and families, helping them achieve stable and secure housing.
Housing Retention services include various forms of support, such as housing searches, transportation, application assistance, referrals to income support programs, training on landlord-tenant laws, eviction prevention, and time-limited case management.
These services contribute to the success of finding and maintaining a home.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Programming
- Assist Housing Workers with client housing assessment.
- Assist with housing offers to clients.
- Assist with leasing agreements, landlord correspondence.
- Assisting with maintaining personal HIFIS account and using HIFIS system for all aspects client case.
- Assist with providing rapid housing support and current clients as required.
- Work with Housing Workers to prepare monthly statistic reports.
Administration
- Research, compile and document current housing options for clients.
- Staying up to date on all communications, including management / supervisory emails, client case notes, meeting minutes, training communications, policy, and procedures updates,
- Assist with the reporting monthly performance statistics.
Organizational Responsibilities
- The position will adhere to standards of The Salvation Army best practices, as well as the Regional Municipality of York’s Core Standards.
- Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in service training.
- Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employees Handbook.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
- This is a temporary full-time position working 30 hours per week for 9 weeks.
- Social Services Aide staff members work onsite at Homes Now.
- Social Services Aide staff members work within the facility. building, and outside of the building.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
- Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria :
- aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
- holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and,
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :
- College diploma or equivalent post-secondary formal study related to social and / or women related services work.
- Bachelor of Social Work or currently enrolled in a program, is preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE :
- Experience working with homelessness.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of women issues related to homelessness, mental health and addictions.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and equity.
- Good knowledge of community resources.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES :
- The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality.

- Must have good interpersonal / time management skills.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.
e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
