Position Overview :
Ontario Transit Group (OTG) is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Structural Steel Project Manager to oversee all aspects of the structural steel components for the Ontario Line South project.
The Structural Steel Project Manager will be responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating the structural steelwork involved in the construction of stations, tunnels, and other infrastructure.
This role requires a solid understanding of structural engineering, steel fabrication, and installation, as well as experience managing large, complex civil infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities :
Project Planning and Coordination : Develop and implement detailed plans for the structural steel components of the project, including procurement, fabrication, and installation schedules.
Coordinate with main consultant, subcontractor / supplier designers, and construction teams to ensure structural steel activities are integrated with the overall project plan.
Vendor and Subcontractor Management : Manage and coordinate all activities related to structural steel subcontractors and Supplier.
Ensure that steel fabrication and installation meet the project's design specifications, quality standards, and deadlines.
Quality Control and Inspection : Oversee and manage quality control for structural steel fabrication and installation giving support to the project and subcontractor quality teams
Budget and Cost Control : Monitor and manage the structural steel budget, ensuring that all activities are completed within the allocated budget.
Work with the project management team to track costs and address any variances.
Risk Management : Identify potential risks related to structural steel fabrication and installation. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks, ensuring the project stays on track and meets safety and quality standards.
Coordination with Design and Engineering Teams : Work closely with design and engineering teams to review and approve structural steel drawings and specifications.
Ensure that any design changes or revisions are properly documented and communicated to the construction teams.
Scheduling and Progress Tracking : Create and maintain schedules for structural steel activities, ensuring alignment with the overall project timeline.
Track progress and report regularly on the status of steel-related tasks.
Health and Safety Compliance : Ensure that all structural steel activities are carried out in accordance with OTG’s health and safety policies and relevant local regulations.
Conduct safety audits and ensure that proper safety protocols are followed during all stages of steel fabrication and installation.
Documentation and Reporting : Prepare and maintain accurate records of all structural steel-related activities, including procurement, fabrication, installation, and quality inspections.
Provide regular progress reports to senior management and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
Experience : Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural steel project management, with a focus on large civil infrastructure or construction projects.
Experience with complex tunneling or underground projects is a plus.
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field is required. .
Technical Knowledge : Strong knowledge of structural steel design, fabrication, and installation. Familiarity with relevant codes and standards for structural steelwork in construction, including AISC and CISC standards.
Software Skills : Proficiency in project management software (Excel, Microsoft Project) and (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) is required.
Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
Problem Solving : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and resolve issues related to structural steel activities.
Leadership Skills : Proven leadership abilities with experience managing and coordinating large teams of subcontractors and vendors.
Attention to Detail : High level of attention to detail, particularly when reviewing designs, specifications, and quality control documentation.
Health and Safety Focus : In-depth knowledge of construction safety standards and practices, with a focus on steel fabrication and installation activities.
