Job Purpose :
Reporting to the President, the Director, Legal will oversee general legal matters, including regulatory compliance, enterprise contracts, corporate governance, risk management, and real estate.
The Director, Legal will provide legal counsel to senior leadership and manage all external legal relationships ensuring that all aspects of the business are in line with applicable laws and healthcare regulations.
What you will be doing :
- Serve as the primary legal advisor to senior leadership on a wide range of legal issues, including healthcare law, corporate governance, real estate law and commercial contracts.
- Provide strategic legal guidance on business initiatives such as expansions, partnerships, acquisitions, and other transactions.
- Develop and implement legal strategies to support business objectives while ensuring compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal laws.
- Manage external relationships with third party law firms
- Provide legal support related to retail operations, including vendor agreements, leases, consumer protection laws, and intellectual property.
- Draft, review, and manage a wide variety of contracts, including commercial leases, real estate deals, vendor agreements, and service agreements.
- Implement and oversee contract management systems to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and protect the company’s legal interests.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Rexall Pharmacy Group.
How you will succeed :
- Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Canada.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of legal experience, including at least 3-5 years in a healthcare or retail setting.
- Strong background in Canadian healthcare law, regulatory compliance, contract law, and corporate governance.
- Experience with retail operations, pharmacy law, and virtual health is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of Canadian healthcare regulations, including privacy laws (PIPEDA / PHIPA), health product regulations, and provincial healthcare laws.
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across various business functions.
