Located in Calgary, the individual in the Cost Accountant role will report to the Reporting Supervisor, Heartland Petrochemical Accounting.
The Cost Accountant will assist with the accounting and analysis of manufactured polypropylene & feedstocks valued over $100 million and located across North America.
The Cost Accountant will monitor and analyze the cost of feedstocks, the cost of manufacturing polypropylene and the performance results of the plants.
This role also supports business initiatives such as the development of new products, manufacturing annual budgeting efforts and feedstock intercompany transactions.
Key Activities and Responsibilities :
- Perform month end accounting and analysis relating to the value of feedstocks, polypropylene and product inventory turnover
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial information within established reporting deadlines
- Assist in the development of standard costs in SAP ERP system
- Responsible for the analysis of products and variances associated with purchased and manufactured goods
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget / forecast for the cost of feedstocks and polypropylene
- Participate in the development of new products with the Marketing, Technical Services and Customer Service teams
- Prepare presentations of monthly manufacturing performance results for the Heartland leadership team
- Develop more efficient and accurate manufacturing reporting
- Preparation of feedstock intercompany transactions and work closely with other business units to ensure elimination of entries
- Conduct G / L account reconciliations, providing recommendations to address reconciling items
- Prioritize workflow and day-to-day tasks, ensuring timely processing in accordance with company guidelines
- Actively promote and implement business process improvements
- Review and analyze monthly feedstock and polypropylene inventory and assess costs for accuracy
- Perform other duties applicable to the role as required
Education, Skills and Experience :
- CPA designation required with two to four years of applicable experience
- SAP experience required
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Use of BI tools is beneficial
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) that can manage relationships effectively
- Demonstrates strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
- A self-starter who demonstrates the capability to establish and achieve ambitious deadlines, working autonomously in a dynamic, fast-paced, growth-oriented setting
Schedule :
Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
