Role : Bookkeeper
Location : Montreal, QC (Canada)
Weekly hours : permanent part time position of roughly 20 - 25 hours per month right now but could grow.
Job Description :
- Bookkeeper will assist the firm of NPMI in the preparation of financial statements, posting of bookkeeping entries, preparation of GST-QST Reports, posting A / R and A / P entries, performing bank reconciliations and all other tasks as assigned.
- Take initiative in the preparatory work to meet government deadlines.
- Assist the owner with the scheduling of work hours.
- Part-time hours with the possibility of a permanent full-time position.
Principal Duties :
- Learn to use the Sage 50 Software & Sage One Business for all bookkeeping entries
- Post bookkeeping entries using Sage 50 and review his / her work to ensure amounts agree
- Assemble documents for bookkeeping entries
- Prepare GST-QST Reports
- Post Payroll Reports received from outsourced payroll company
- Retrieve T4 / RL-1 and Reports from outsourced payroll company and mail / deliver to all employees
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients
- Communicate with government officials regarding the application of tax laws - both Federally and Provincially
- Tally up receipts in the preparation of bookkeeping entries
- Learn and apply the GST-QST basic rules in the accounting of expenses
- Seek to obtain any relevant information needed in completing the work
- Use the appropriate stamps when posting entries and write in their initials
- Ask questions when not sure on how to calculate or how to apply accounting principles
- All other tasks as assigned
Required Experience :
- Good working knowledge of math and accounting principles
- Listens carefully and applies what he / she has learned
- Patient with unfinished work due to unforeseen delays and / or client delays
- Professional in communicating with clients and government officials
- Has excellent, neat and clear writing skills
- Able to find discrepancies and correct them
Qualifications :
- Degree in Accounting and / or Experience
- CPA is an asset
- Good knowledge of accounting principles
- Some knowledge of taxation rules
