Our Engineering Design Organization is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer and Team Lead ready to join one of our Western Canada offices.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :
- Working closely with the Business Lead and Managers, Project Directors, Project Managers, other engineers and designers from multiple design lines, delivering projects in all of our markets, including Water (water / wastewater treatment, linear water, water resources), Transportation, Environmental (solid waste, landfill, contaminated sites and remediation), and Energy and Resources.
- Managing the Western Canada electrical design team, consisting of engineers and designers.
- Work with the Business Group Leader (BGL) to establish the resourcing, system and processes to deliver services to meet client expectations and requirements.
- Work with the BGL to develop, coach and mentor the team
- Schedule and manage workload for the team
- Developing or verifying the technical scope of a project, and developing design and construction fees
- Preparing detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, within budget and schedule, including the following : Utility interconnection Substation design Electrical system protection and coordination Low (LV) and medium (MV) voltage power distribution and motor control Standby power systems design Instrumentation and Control Building services (lighting, security, DC systems Grounding Equipment layouts
- Completion and review of electrical design calculations
- Preparation of contract documentation including equipment specifications, cable / conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, bill-of-materials, and process narratives
- Technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents. Professional sealing of technical documents.
- Support during tendering and construction including responding to RFIs, assisting GHD and client site personnel, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports (short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, ground potential rise (GPR), harmonics, , completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, preparation and evaluation of change orders and participation in project meetings
- Completing condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings
- Preparing and leading electrical specific meetings with clients presenting design options, system functionality, etc. Participating in design coordination meetings and addressing critical issues
- Ensuring quality control processes are being followed
- Coordination of electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, structural, , vendors, and outside design team members.
Providing direction to and coordination with internal designers / drafter’s team
- Ensuring compliance with Canadian electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations. Coordination and liaison with clients and approving authorities
- Ensure timely completion of project deliverables, be able to manage several projects at once and determine priorities, including demonstrating sound judgement and decisiveness
What you will bring to the team :
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university;
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- 10-15 years of electrical engineering experience
- Demonstrable experience in the design and implementation of MV and LV electrical systems including substations, motors and drives, power distribution, power generation, as well as working knowledge of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration
- Good working knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations. Working knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) considered an asset.
Understanding of MV and LV power distribution design concepts, equipment and personnel safety strategies and electrical system protection theories and applications
- Good understanding of the level of effort required to complete electrical designs and deliverables
- Ability to take ownership and accountability for completed work
- Strong influencing skills and the ability to develop effective and trustworthy relationships both with project teams and within the organization
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Project management skills, budget, and schedule controls would be considered an asset
- Experience working in a Design Build environment would be considered an asset.
- Exceptional time management skills with the capability to multi-task and manage numerous project
