Applications are invited for the position of Department Head, UHN Centre for Mental Health and Program Medical Director UHN- CAMH Partnership.

This position is accountable for building and sustaining a strong foundation that supports the delivery of high-quality patient care, education and research in the area of Mental Health.

The Department Head / PMD will be the catalyst for advancing all aspects of our culture of quality and safety at UHN, creating highly reliable systems, with a focus on exceptional experiences and continuous improvement and for advancing the new UHN-CAMH partnership.

The anticipated start date is March 1, 2025.

We seek an accomplished academic psychiatrist with demonstrated success leading in a complex academic health sciences centre.

This position anticipates a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, Canada’s highest ranking university.

As the successful candidate, you must possess MD and FRCPC or equivalent qualifications, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario.

Candidates may be eligible for an Academic Chair.

The Department Head, UHN Centre for Mental Health and Program Medical Director UHN-CAMH Partnership role will play a key strategic and operational leadership role in advancing mental health care at UHN and increasing collaborative clinical and academic initiatives with CAMH.

This joint leadership role is funded to support 2 days at UHN and 1 day at CAMH, reporting for UHN matters to the UHN Chief Medical Officer and in regard to the partnership, jointly to the CMOs at UHN and CAMH.

It is anticipated that the incumbent will practice clinically approximately two days per week and will participate in the UHN Psychiatry Practice plan.

Responsibilities at UHN

The Department Head is responsible for all aspects of patient care, teaching and research in the UHN Centre for Mental Health Program.

You will work within UHN's Program Matrix model, providing leadership in concert with a Clinical Vice President, as well as other Program Medical Directors and Clinical Directors.

You will have primary responsibility for, quality and safety in the Centre for Mental Health and dyadic responsibility with the Clinical Vice-President / Clinical Director for Finances and clinical operations.

Responsibilities at CAMH

As the Program Medical Director for UHN-CAMH Partnership, you will attend the CAMH Clinical Executive and be responsible for leading integration efforts related to clinical care, education and research in mental health across CAMH and UHN.

You will work with CAMH senior leadership including Clinical Vice-Presidents, Division Chiefs, Medical Directors to advance the partnership and the provision of high quality, integrate care for patients and families at in both the UHN and CAMH environments.
