Job Summary :
CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a who will be responsible for facilitating the development of standards related to environment and climate change.
This includes standards for a diverse collection of subjects including climate change mitigation and adaptation, recycling, circularity and ESG.
The Project Manager will oversee all aspects of standards development, primarily involving the management of multiple environment standards development committees (e.
g. facilitation, communication, member recruitment, preparation of meeting agendas, minutes, draft standards), within identified project timelines and budgets, and in accordance with CSA Directives.
This position requires managing the many members of standards development committees, as well as their Chairs and Vice-Chairs, which can be very demanding, as they are all volunteers, with no formal reporting relationship to CSA Group.
This volunteer membership includes industry executives, academia, and senior government officials. The role requires a capacity to engage and manage a diverse stakeholder community, and ability to manage conflict.
In addition to working with committees and stakeholders, the ideal candidate will apply their sector knowledge, and identify potential areas for new standards or training programs.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
Standards Development Responsibilities
Committee management and leadership, including establishing the scope of work to be completed, managing required resources, and providing ongoing project management leadership in conjunction with the Chair and Vice-Chair.
This includes managing the development of technical content, technical writing, and working with members to prepare high quality documents.
Committee member management within committee scope.
Identifies, develops, secures, and drives new business opportunities within or related to environment and climate change (e.
g. identify new standards requirements or training and education potential, and develop proposals).
Determines and manages the resources required to complete a project, and ensures deliverables are achieved on-time and within budget.
Does not require mentor; fully independent committee leadership and escalates as needed. Supports and promotes best practices.
Ensures appropriate coordination takes place with other departments within the company that are involved with the development and publication of a standard or other business opportunities (i.
e. legal, marketing, commercial).
Supports engagement on CSA Online Portal - . Promote involvement and stimulates conversations amongst members and other stakeholders.
Initiate blogs. Feeds ideas for content postings, industry news, etc. to relevant CSA staff (e.g. Standards Manager, BDMs, PMs).
Preferred Education and Experience :
Technologist or Bachelor’s degree (Ex. CET, BSc or B.Eng).
3-5 years’ experience in an environment related field (e.g. Circular Economy, GHG Management, Climate Change, Business or Environmental Management Systems, Sustainability).
Knowledge of the standards industry, government policy, industry landscape, and funding programs / models.
Experience leading or working with multi-stakeholder committees or groups.
Experience in writing proposals, business plans and technical documents.
Standards development experience or a history of working with standards is an asset.
Designation as a Certified Project Management Professional, or equivalent designation / experience is an asset.
