Mental Health Clinician School Liaison 1.0 FTE The Burnaby School District is seeking a full time (1.00FTE) Mental Health Clinician School Liaison effective September 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027.

JOB SUMMARY : Develops, implements and supports the advancement of Mental Health Literacy in a K-12 school setting with the goal of increasing the capacity of school staff to better identify, triage and access support for children, youth and families struggling with mental health concerns.

Develops, implements and adjusts individualized treatment plans for children and youth with mental health issues; establishes trust with youth and engages them at their level of readiness for change.

Provides screening and referral services including psychoeducation, family sessions and parent groups; determines appropriateness of request, client eligibility and availability of resources.

Collaborates and consults with CYMH colleagues, school personnel and others, attends and participates in meetings, develops linkages with other facilities, agencies and support groups, and participates in quality improvement initiatives.

A good communicator who takes initiative in responding to community needs with minimal direction. QUALIFICATIONS : Current valid B.

C. Teaching Certificate Master's Degree in Education, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Social Work or equivalent Two (2) years' post masters, related experience providing counselling services including two (2) years' providing professional services to child, youth and their families with mental health issues.

Valid BC Driver's License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle. KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES : Comprehensive understanding of child and youth mental health issues, including experience working with concurrent disorders.

Working knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V) Knowledge of evidence-based (or informed) treatment modalities related to treating children and youth with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, early psychosis or other serious mental health concerns / diagnoses.

Knowledge of working with a trauma informed practice framework. Broad knowledge of the normal growth and development of children and youth.

Broad knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects). Broad knowledge of different cultural perspectives related to mental health and an ability to work in a diverse community setting.

Knowledge of school, and legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client. Knowledge of School and School District policy around safe and caring schools and the responsibility of the Principal (fair and just parent role) Demonstrated ability to work in the community in an outreach capacity.

Demonstrated ability to provide support and consultation to school based teams around planning and support to children and youth with mental health issues.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate professional growth workshops for school staff with a proficiency in public speaking.

Demonstrated ability to host workshops for parents and community partners on issues of mental health and resiliency. Demonstrated ability to perform mental health assessments and provide short term clinical intervention / treatment planning and care.

Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and provide treatment planning for children and youth with complex mental health and in some cases addiction issues.

Demonstrated ability to establish programming to assist children and youth with accessing school and work opportunities using a rehabilitative approach.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and youth, and their families, educational personnel, service providers, colleagues, physician, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups with children and youth and / or their family.

Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within an interdisciplinary setting.

Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events (crisis management). Demonstrated ability to problem solve. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
