As a seasoned investigator who has experience in investigating bullying, harassment and discrimination, you will contribute to The City's commitment noted above through the investigation of high profile and high-risk workplace incidents of serious or offensive respectful workplace behaviours.

Your approach will ensure employees feel supported in a fair and unbiased process. You will work using a trauma-informed methodology focused on employee experience to create and model leading investigative practices.

You will be required to impartially gather information, understand systems and policies, and apply analytical reasoning to determine facts and present clear and concise written findings.

The job is demanding and success in this role requires sound judgment, leadership and organizational skills, initiative, inclusive consideration through multiple perspectives, and practical decision making.

Competing interests must be managed in a timely manner. Peak periods can be high stress with multiple priorities and simultaneous deadlines.

You will leverage your investigation experience to apply best practice and a creative mindset to achieve the following :

  • Investigate respectful workplace and human rights concerns thoroughly and impartially to produce clear and concise reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Stay abreast of related legislation and jurisprudence around related societal trends and investigative practices to ensure prompt and high-quality investigations.
  • Work with key partners to periodically survey industry and / or market on a national level to identify emerging investigation and interview trends and provide recommendations for improvements as necessary.
  • Assist with the maintenance of educational content, communication tools and templates related to respectful workplace investigations in a variety of mediums.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Sciences, Human Resources or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience investigating complex respectful workplace issues, preferably in a large, complex organization.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Expertise in writing clear and concise reports is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with investigation experience in a unionized environment.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use, or reliable transportation to access remote work sites is required.
  • Specialized investigation training, trauma informed investigation training and / or a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
  • Success in this role requires a resilient individual with excellent communication skills, high attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks, and strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
