Job Summary

The Vascular Surgery service at Vancouver General Hospital is the largest in Western Canada providing tertiary and quaternary level care for vascular surgery patients from across British Columbia.

Vascular specific services provided at VGH that differentiate it from the other three major vascular centers in BC include :

  • Complex stroke care as a result of the provincial stroke referral program being centered at VGH where the majority of complex stroke patients are referred.
  • Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm surgery is a highly specialized program unique to VGH and requires extensive resources and surgeon skillsets including a strong collaboration with the cardiac surgery service at VGH.
  • Other vascular centers in BC refer patients with complex redo or infected aortic and arterial problems for reconstruction and quaternary level care and these are also long, difficult procedures that often require multiple surgeon teams and innovative solutions which are unique to the VGH group in BC.
  • VGH also provides treatment to the most complicated venous thrombosis patients in BC and a combined approach between vascular surgery and Interventional Radiology is often needed to provide best patient outcomes.

VCH is pleased to announce we will now reimburse Nurse Practitioners (NPs) for the cost of the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE), upon successful completion, for NP candidates who have not yet completed the exam, and who are hired into a regular or temporary position with VCH.
