The Peel District School Board (PDSB) is a racially, culturally and linguistically diverse board that serves 155,000+ students and approximately 17,000 employees.

The workforce consists of teachers, office staff, custodial staff, education assistants and professional staff. The workforce is largely unionized through PDSB’s numerous affiliated bargaining agents.

Job Summary

Reporting to assigned Employee and Labour Relations Partners, the HR Representative position will work collaboratively within a team to support a large client group including teaching, non-teaching, management and casual employee groups.

The successful applicant will support the full employee life cycle including wage and salary administration; leave administration and termination and retirement processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities will include : Automation and documentation of processes; participation in continuous improvement initiatives;
  • preparing emails, memos, letters, reports and responding to queries, concerns, and issues (email, calls or in person); conducting research and gathering information;
  • maintaining files and documentation; providing clarification on policies, procedures, processes, collective agreements and legislation;

providing training, support and guidance; liaising with schools and departments to obtain / provide information and other related duties as assigned.

The successful applicant may be required to work a flexible work week during peak workload periods; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Diploma / Certificate / Degree related to Human Resources or successfully complete the following two (2) HR Courses : HR Management and Labour / Industrial Relations
  • Minimum one year directly related experience in Human Resources within a multi-union environment
  • Working knowledge and experience with HRIS (Vista) to prepare and analyze reports and process employee life cycle events in accordance with policies, procedures, collective agreements and terms and conditions and understanding of payroll, benefits and pension
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives, documenting workflow processes and providing training and support
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem solving, decision making, troubleshooting, technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal) and documentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated effective coordination, organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, ability to manage multiple priorities and meet timelines and maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, HRIS, SharePoint)
  • Experience working with an Applicant Tracking System is an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant collective agreements, legislations, HR best practices and Board policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of education sector preferred
