The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is a supramunicipal organization with jurisdiction over the Kativik region. The KRG is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic and motivated candidate to fill the position of :
Lead Environmental Technician
Permanent, Full-time on Rotation)
Reporting to the Coordinator - Environment, the Lead Environmental Technician will work closely with environmental specialists.
More specifically, the Lead Environmental Technician's role will be to perform the following tasks :
- Conduct environmental assessments of contaminated sites (Phase I and Phase II);
- Help coordinate remediation work on contaminated sites in northern villages;
- Write detailed environmental inspection reports;
- Participate in community inspections, conducting water and soil sampling and analyzing results;
- Follow up accidental spills with the relevant authorities and ensure that all measures are taken to minimize impacts;
- Collaborate with local stakeholders to assess environmental needs in communities;
- Participate in the development and implementation of environmental awareness programs in Nunavik communities;
- Participate in the planning and implementation of prevention programs;
- Help coordinate recycling and hazardous waste management programs with team members and local authorities;
- Collect field data and communicate results;
- Work closely with other members of the environmental team in other tasks related to environmental management;
- Support the environment technician in his / her tasks;
- Perform any other tasks required.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- College diploma in environment or related field
- 2 years' relevant environmental experience
- Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in force in the province of Quebec
- Experience working with aboriginal or northern communities.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of sampling protocols standardized by the Ministry of the Environment
- Know how to install and use environmental monitoring tools.
- Able to write technical reports and communicate information with team members, communities, organizations, and regulatory authorities.
- Good knowledge of health and safety risks associated with environmental characterization and remediation work.
- Interest in working outdoors year-round and traveling within Nunavik.
- Working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages, written and spoken : Inuktitut, English, and French.
Work schedule and place of work : 6-3 rotation schedule : 6 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 3 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly)
Work schedule and place of work : 4-2 rotation schedule : 4 weeks working the Northern Villages, followed by 2 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly);

Salary : Min : $ 44,712 / year, max : $ 75,266 / year
