Reporting to the Associate Vice President ( AVP ), the Director, Employee Relations, Health and Wellness ("Director") is accountable for guiding and fostering labour and employee relations across the institution, as well as health and wellness services and programs that support a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant workplace where all people, places, and communities can flourish and fuel Sheridan's strategic plan.
The Director leads teams of HR Business Partners and specialists in Employee Relations, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Wellness, and Workplace Abilities who support their clients through an equitable, efficient and engaging workplace.
The Director cultivates effective relations with Sheridan's union locals that leverages the collective agreements and maintains management rights.
The Director also oversees compliance with employment legislation, policies and contracts while driving the evolution of workplace practices to meet employee and business needs.
The Director collaborates with the Office of Inclusive Communities and the Office of General Council to resolve disputes and create effective policy.
They are also a key member of the HR leadership team which sets the strategic direction for the Division and aligns resources to support current priorities and the future of work.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing senior leadership and direction on all labour and employee relations activities of Sheridan; maintaining, promoting and enhancing a safe, respectful and supportive workplace while ensuring compliance with relevant employment legislation, policies and procedures.
- Partnering with the Office of Inclusive Communities and the Office of the General Counsel to leverage Sheridan’s existing employment culture and leading transformational change to workplace practices that improve equity, the employee experience and business results.
- Providing leadership and oversight to the Employee Relations Team. Aligning and empowering the employee relations team to be strategic HR experts who advise and position managers to achieve business outcomes.
- Providing leadership planning, development, implementation, evaluation, operational management of Sheridan's Employee Health, Safety, Wellness and Workplace Abilities programs and services.
- Advocating, promoting, implementing, and leading strategic, College-wide workplace wellbeing actions, shifting workplace practices, and driving initiatives that support Sheridan's Strategic Plan, the Campus Wellness Strategy and HR strategy.
- Working collaboratively as a key member of the HR Senior Leadership Team to set divisional priorities, culture, and align resources to build capacity to create and support the workplace of the future.
This includes overseeing the operational management of budgets and financial resources by planning, developing and monitoring fiscal resources are used efficiently.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications :
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labour Studies, Business or related field
- 9-years progressive HR experience (including 4 years of experience in a leadership capacity) managing labour relations in a multi-union environment (equivalency to be considered)
- HR experience in the academic or public sector is preferred
- Experience developing and implementing organization-wide policies and procedures at senior level
- Solid business acumen; Budget experience
- Certified HR Professional or Leader designation (CHRL or CHRP)
- Investigation training (asset)
- Alternative dispute resolution training (asset)
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace training (asset)
