Infrastructureand Application Discovery
IdentifyingAssets and Dependencies :
oAutomatically discover IT infrastructure components such as serversrouters databases applications and more.
oIdentify the relationships and dependencies between thesecomponents to build a comprehensive view of the ITlandscape.
o Expand discovery as requiredthroughout the organization. o Introduce and establish clouddiscovery.
MultilayerDiscovery :
o Performdiscovery across multiple layers including the network layeroperating system layer and application layer ensuring a deepunderstanding of the ITenvironment.
ConfigurationManagement Database (CMDB) Population
CMDB DataPopulation :
o Populate theCMDB with detailed information about discovered assets includingtheir configurations status and relationships with otherassets.
o Ensure that the data in the CMDB isaccurate and uptodate supporting various ITIL processes likeIncident Problem and ChangeManagement.
CMDB Health andMaintenance :
o Monitor andmanage the health of the CMDB by identifying and resolving issuessuch as duplicate entries stale records and orphaned CIs(ConfigurationItems).
DiscoveryPatterns and Probes
Design andManagement of Discovery Patterns :
o Create configure and manageDiscovery patterns to define how Discovery identifies andclassifies assets.
o Use patterns to extendDiscovery capabilities to custom applications or nonstandarddevices.
Utilizing Probes andSensors :
o Deploy and manageprobes and sensors that collect data from devices during thediscovery process.
o Customize probes andsensors to gather specific information needed for uniqueenvironments or customconfigurations.
CredentialManagement
Managing Discovery Credentials :
o Set up and managecredentials (e.g. SSH SNMP WMI etc.) used by Discovery to accessand gather data from devices.
o Ensure secureand compliant management of credentials rotating them as necessaryand minimizing exposure to unauthorizedaccess.
Identificationand Reconciliation Engine (IRE)
ConfigurationItem (CI) Identification :
oUse the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) to correctlyidentify and classify discovered assets avoiding duplicate CIs inthe CMDB.
o Define and manage identificationrules that determine how Discovery matches and updates existingCIs.
Reconciliation :
o Ensure that the correctdata sources are prioritized when populating or updating CIs in theCMDB maintaining data integrity andconsistency.
DiscoverySchedule and Control
SchedulingDiscovery Scans :
o Scheduleregular Discovery scans to ensure continuous visibility into the ITenvironment.
o Customize schedules based onbusiness needs such as more frequent scans for criticalinfrastructure and less frequent scans for stable less dynamicsystems.
Controlling DiscoveryScans : and nbsp;
o Monitor andmanage the progress of Discovery scans troubleshooting issues thatarise during the discovery process.
o Adjustscanning parameters such as IP ranges or protocols used to optimizeperformance and ensure completecoverage.
ServiceMapping
MappingBusiness Services :
o UseDiscovery in conjunction with Service Mapping to automatically mapbusiness services and their underlyingcomponents.
o Create accurate service mapsthat show how different infrastructure and application componentssupport business services.
Dynamic Service Mapping :
oEnable dynamic updates to service maps as the underlyinginfrastructure changes ensuring that service maps remain accurateovertime.
DiscoveryDiagnostics andTroubleshooting
Discovery Troubleshooting :
oDiagnose and resolve issues that arise during the Discovery processsuch as failed probes inaccessible devices or incompletescans.
o Use Discovery logs diagnostic toolsand error messages to identify the root cause of issues and applycorrective actions.
DiscoveryPerformance Optimization :
oMonitor and optimize the performance of Discovery by tuningparameters such as scan frequency IP range configurations and probeefficiency.
o Ensure that Discovery processesare efficient and do not overly burden the network or devices beingscanned.
Integrationwith Other ITOM Modules
Integrationwith Event Management :
oIntegrate Discovery with Event Management to correlate discoveredCIs with events enabling proactive monitoring and faster incidentresolution.
Integration withOrchestration :
o LeverageDiscovery data in Orchestration workflows to automate common IToperations tasks such as provisioning or deprovisioning resourcesbased on the CMDBdata.
Reportingand Analytics
Discovery Reporting :
oGenerate reports and dashboards that provide insights into thediscovered assets discovery coverage and CMDBhealth.
o Use analytics to track trendsidentify gaps in coverage and measure the effectiveness ofDiscoveryprocesses.
Compliance and Audit Support :
o Provide data from Discoveryto support compliance initiatives and audits ensuring that theorganization maintains accurate records of IT assets andconfigurations.
ConsultantQualifications
The SeniorServiceNow Developer specializing in Discovery IT OperationsManagement (ITOM) and Integrations will play a critical role indesigning developing and implementing robust solutions within theServiceNow platform.
This role requires a deep understanding ofServiceNows capabilities particularly in ITOM and Discovery and theability to integrate various systemsseamlessly.
Education :
o Bachelors degreein Computer Science Information Technology or a related field. Anadvanced degree ispreferred.
Experience :
o Minimum of 5years of handson experience with ServiceNow development andadministration :
Extensive experience inconfiguring and customizing ServiceNow applications with a focus onITOM and Discovery.
Proven track record ofmanaging and delivering complex ServiceNow projects fromrequirements gathering to deployment andsupport.
o Expertise in ServiceNowModules :
