Job Description
Supports the Pathology department by grossing biopsy specimens in a timely manner. Responsible for handling of different types of biopsies, completing gross dictations accurately and assisting in preparing send out tests and frozen sections.
Contribute to safe, quality care by :
- Responsibilities include processing specimens, documentation of procedures and results, maintenance, stocking and cleaning of working area.
- Ensures positive patient identification is completed for each specimen container.
- Handles different types of specimens efficiently with attention to detail.
- Ability to collect and handle small tissue fragments with accuracy and care.
- Efficient in gross dictation and documenting pertinent information that contributes to microscopic examination.
- Troubleshoots and investigates incidents relating to missing tissue or other specimen related concerns.
- Organizes and files empty specimen containers upon completion of gross.
- Ensures the efficient set up of laboratory equipment for daily use.
What must you have?
- Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) General Diploma from a recognized school of Medical Laboratory Technology
- Successful Completion of certification exams for general registration from CSMLS.
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
- At least one (1) year grossing experience in a clinical pathology laboratory setting.

Preferably your profile also includes :
- Minimum 3 years current Pathology MLT hospital work experience
- Previous experience using Dragon Voice Recognition an asset.
- This position is being represented by OPSEU Paramedical.
- You may be required to work at any site of Mackenzie Health.
