Responsibilities
- Support the achievement of the organization’s mission, vision and values and participate as a member of the Strategic Management Council (SMC).
- Collaborate with other members of the executive team, Board of Directors, board committees and external service providers and partners.
- Define a clear, innovative vision to the operation of claims management and the provision of high-quality decision making while ensuring compliance under the Workers’ Compensation Act.
- Provide inspirational leadership and clear direction to ensure efficient and quality processing and delivery of claims management, exceptional claims management training, and quality assurance.
- Develop unique and innovative solutions to complex and often sensitive administrative, operations or policy issues that may have a major impact on clients.
- Accountable for key performance results as articulated in the corporate objectives.
- Review operational initiatives and resource requirements to ensure the WCB team and our clients are successful.
- Oversee the first level of review for both claim and premium-related issues through the DRDRB.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic five-year business plan and the development of annual corporate objectives.
- Co-manage an overall budget of approximately $110 million and share responsibility for over two million workers covered in Alberta.
The Individual
Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the VP Claims & Disability Management will be first and foremost an inspiring leader who will ensure effective delivery of claims management, represent the organization externally, build relationships with key community partners, and support the organization’s mission, vison, and values as a part of the Strategic Management Council.
The VP will have senior management experience in a sufficiently complex organization and will possess proven leadership skills that reflect a philosophy that is well communicated, widely supported, consistently applied, and effectively implemented.
A strong business acumen together with advanced planning, organizing, and negotiating skills, ideally but not necessarily in the insurance industry, will be critical to the success of this role.
Further, the individual will be results oriented, capable of successfully initiating and implementing change, have proven problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to understand and relate to complex, multi-faceted issues.
