Who are we looking for?

GHD’s Water Group is seeking an Integrated Water Management Engineer and Project Manager Western Canada Region based in our Calgary, AB office.

GHD is looking for energetic, creative, motivated engineers, scientist and technologists to work on existing challenging projects and to join our dynamic successful water group.

Our diversified projects vary from urban drainage planning and design, flood plain mapping, dam breach assessments, climate change adaptation studies, master municipal planning, design of pump stations, and linear infrastructure (open cut and trenchless).

Our growing client list includes some of the largest utilities in our region, as well as many smaller agencies and private sector clients.

Utilizing a One GHD approach to collaboration, we leverage industry-leading talent from across the globe to provide our clients with unmatched expertise and service.

The ideal candidate should have confirmed technical experience in the assessment and design of urban drainage systems, modelling and design, evaluation of medium to large-scale watersheds comprised of both hard and soft landscapes, evaluation of gravity and pressure pipe networks, and a familiarity with related disciplines such as aquatic ecology, toxicology, hydrogeology, land development, and urban planning.

As a key member of a small team with a company that is relatively new to this set of market services in Western Canada, the candidate must be highly adaptable, utilizing your business development skills and interacting expertly with public and private sector clients with minimum supervision.

The ideal candidate will also be asked to apply their expertise in other Regions and may be asked to travel to participate in client meetings, project team meetings and site visits.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :

  • Collaborate with teams of diverse professionals located throughout North America, to offer GHD’s extensive Integrated Water Management (IWM) expertise to clients
  • Perform and / or coordinate the required assessment, analysis, modelling, research, design, quality control, and overall execution of major IWM projects, as well as projects originating in other business groups based on the skills and interests of the candidate
  • Take a leading role in business development initiatives, including collaboration with our Pursuit Team in the development of high-quality, strategic proposals.

Serve as client relationship manager for many active projects and represent GHD values and commitments at client meetings.

Provide technical direction in detailed calculations, equipment selection, specifications, and contract documents preparation

What you bring to the team :

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related discipline
  • Experience and / or formal training with project management best practices
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a professional consulting environment
  • Strong business development skills and local contacts with some of our key clients in Western Canada
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
  • Proven supervisory experience in mentoring junior and intermediate engineers and technologists

Key Performance Indicators :

  • Participate in the development and execution of the growth strategy for the Western Canada Water Group. This is expected to include client outreach, industry participation, positioning for opportunities, submission of proposals, development of project scopes and fees, project / program management and leadership, staff recruiting, staff leadership and successful project execution
  • Embrace the One GHD philosophy by collaborating with IWM teams worldwide to share capabilities and project opportunities
  • Specialized expertise that allows GHD to offer our clients exceptionally qualified teams
  • Embrace established project management best practices and advocate for the adoption of standard methodologies within your sphere of influence at GHD
  • Achieve and maintain a utilization ratio of 70% (possibility of adjustment in the future), and support any junior staff to achieve their utilization targets
