Position Title : Agricultural Equipment Technician

Location : Ontario, Canada

Employment Type : Full-Time

Required Hours : 7,000 hours

Overview :

An Agricultural Equipment Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of agricultural machinery and equipment used in farming operations.

These technicians play a vital role in ensuring that machinery such as tractors, harvesters, tillers, plows, and irrigation systems are functioning efficiently and safely.

The role requires a combination of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge to perform regular maintenance and complex repairs.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Education & Experience :

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in agricultural technology, diesel mechanics, or a related field is highly preferred.
• Certification in agricultural equipment repair (e.g., ASE certification, or equivalent) is a plus.
• Previous experience working with agricultural machinery is highly preferred (typically 2+ years).

Technical Skills :

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems used in agricultural equipment.
• Familiarity with diagnostics tools, schematics, and repair manuals.
• Ability to repair and maintain a variety of equipment, such as tractors, combines, plows, seeders, and irrigation systems.

Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting :

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues efficiently.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements :

• Ability to lift and move heavy parts or tools (up to 50 lbs or more).
• Comfort working in outdoor or farm environments, including exposure to dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions.

Interpersonal Skills :

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong customer service orientation and ability to work effectively in team settings.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Experience with computerized diagnostic systems or agricultural equipment software.
• Knowledge of precision agriculture technology (e.g., GPS-guided systems, automatic steering systems).
• Basic welding and fabrication skills.

Work Environment :

• The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, often in varying weather conditions.
• Work may be performed in a shop setting or on-site at farms or agricultural businesses.
• This position may require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call availability during peak farming seasons.
