General Information
The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization as a casual Play & Learn and Afterschool Program Assistant in the Cowichan Lake Recreation Division within the Community Services Department.
Reporting to the Manager, Cowichan Lake Recreation and supervised by the Play & Learn and Afterschool Program Facilitator, the Play & Learn and Afterschool Program Assistant assists with developing and implementing the Play & Learn and Afterschool Program at Cowichan Lake Recreation.
Qualifications
- Secondary school graduation plus college or university courses in Early Childhood Education and behaviour management, or training as a Teacher’s Aide, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience working with groups of children, ages three to five years old.
- Experience in assisting with the planning and implementation of age appropriate activities for children, ages three to five years old.
- First Aid Level 1 with Child CPR
- Class 5 BC Driver’s License

Hours of Work
The play & learn and afterschool program runs from Steptember to June and hours of work are based on operational need and may vary.
As this is a casual position, there are no guaranteed hours of work.
Salary
This non-union casual opportunity has a starting wage in 3 steps, $20.42 - $21.59 - $22.75 per hour, plus an additional 6% pay in lieu of benefits, 6% pay in lieu of vacation and 5.
2% pay in lieu of statutory holidays, as per the CVRD non-union wage scale (2024 rates).
