Summary
The primary purpose of the Law Clerk, Litigation / Litigation Support is the handling of all technical aspects of litigation projects and cases, including responding to day-to-day requests from firm legal professionals and outside counsel by providing timely and effective technical support in respect to IPRO Suite of products and other litigation support tools.
Communicating with Litigation Support group as appropriate in order to ensure database integrity, security and availability.
Essential Functions
- review and organize client production documents, coding documents, and e-discovery processing;
- draft Affidavits of Records;
- load electronic data prepared by vendors and provided by other parties into Eclipse database;
- preparation of production, witness and expert binders;
- organization of exhibits, undertakings, pleadings and motion materials;
- assist Lawyers with document management and presentation at Questionings, Arbitrations and Trial;
- staying current on litigation support trends such as strategic tools and courtroom presentation tools. Identifying and providing recommendations concerning emerging litigation support technologies;
- supporting all levels of document management, including setting up and maintaining databases, scanning, creating forms, quality control, imaging, data processing and transcript management;
- communicating where appropriate with technical support staff from software companies and third-party vendors;
- liaise with other Bennett Jones offices to ensure best practices and procedures are shared across the firm; and
- drafting, updating and organizing training support materials for internal firm use and conducting training sessions for department members and end-users when required.
Qualifications
- minimum of 3 years litigation support / legal assistant experience in a law firm or e-discovery vendor environment;
- post-secondary education in a Legal Assistant or Paralegal program;
- strong understanding of litigation processes and procedures;
- working knowledge of computer hardware, software and networking technologies (e.g. understanding of system requirements, ability to liaise with IT to communicate technical needs, ecourtroom set-up, etc.);
- expertise in all areas of document organization, this includes paper and e-discovery requirements;
- strong working knowledge of multiple software packages which may include but not limited to IPRO, Reveal, Casemap, Relativity, Everlaw, Disco;
- strong project management and leadership skills;
- ability to respond to everyday tasks with minimum supervision;
- ability to interact confidently and competently with legal professionals and clients;
- excellent analytical, problem solving, attention to detail and critical thinking skills;
- capacity to handle high-pressure situations and deadlines; and
- excellent verbal and written communication skills.
