The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for a temporary, part-time (28 hrs / wk) Community and Youth Outreach Worker position starting immediately until June 27, 2025.

The Community and Youth Outreach Worker works collaboratively with the Learning Support Team, administration, and guidance counselors in schools throughout Rocky View Schools (RVS) to support students one-on-one as well as in group settings.

The Community and Youth Outreach Worker advocates for identified student needs, and connects students and their families with sustainable community supports.

The successful candidate will have a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License and access to a reliable vehicle as travel will be required with students in the vehicle.

The RVS Community Learning Centre (CLC), Chestermere campus, is located in the City of

Chestermere, and serves students from grades 10-12. For more information

The successful candidate may also work at the RVS CLC Airdrie based on the needs of the School.

Responsibilities

Assists schools in the development and delivery of proactive and preventative universal, targeted,

and specialized programming in areas of mental health promotion, healthy living, positive life

choices, cultural identity, and positive social environments

Advocates for, and provides referral support to, identified students and their families

Participates and contributes to students’ learning plans and overall success

Identifies and brings forward student needs to school and divisional learning support teams

Connects students with housing, health, and social services (arranges internal and external

referrals)

Liaises and builds relationships with community agencies in order to help students transition to

outside services

Assists students in reconnecting and strengthening connections with their families

Collaborates with the school to organize activities for youth to identify and support their

educational / career aspirations and develop life skills

Develops, maintains, and disseminates information via various medium to promote student mental

health

Conducts home visits in the outreach component of the role as directed

Gathers and presents program statistics and other pertinent information in monthly and annual

reports as required

Establishes and maintains networks with local agencies, parents, and school representatives, in

order to provide support and resources to students in RVS

Assists youth in connecting to beneficial, affordable, and sustainable community resources

Occasionally transports students between locations in personal vehicle as directed

Skills / Attributes

Demonstrated ability to effectively build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

Working knowledge of community resources within the division and surrounding communities

Strong knowledge and understanding of maintaining confidential practices

Culturally sensitive and inclusive

Understanding the needs of high-risk youth and homelessness issues

Strong organizational and prioritization skills

Education / Experience

Post-secondary degree or certificate in social work, psychology, child and youth care, or a

related field

Two or more years’ experience supporting vulnerable youth and their families

Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle License

Training and / or experience in risk assessment, mediation, suicide prevention / intervention, threat

risk assessment, crisis counselling, trauma informed practice, and advocacy are considered assets

1-3 years’ supporting youth in an inclusive education setting is considered an asset

As this is a temporary position there is no employer paid sick time, pension, or benefits

Rocky View School employees who are ineligible for employer paid benefits may access the supplemental benefits package at their own cost

The successful candidate must submit a current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of the start of your employment

Other Requirements

Vehicle liability insurance appropriate for occasional business use including $2,000,000 per

occurrence
