We are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team on a full-time and permanent basis . This position will be based out of our Head Office in Liberty Village and offers a hybrid working model of 2-days a week in-office and 3-days a week work-from-home.
A large component of this position is taking care of Accruals booking month-end entries, tracking accruals, preparing reconciliations and reports / ad-hoc reports on our accrual position.
WHAT YOU’D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE
- Prepare and ensure compliance with financial reporting for all corporate entities and consolidation
- Perform period-end financial close responsibilities, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations to support financial reporting
- Responsible for complete and accurate accrual accounting on major areas of operating expenditure, collaborating with cross functional teams towards recording and tracking accruals, subsequent analysis and regular monitoring to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Provide timely updates and comprehensive reports to management on the company's accrual position.
- Assist with preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual Financial Statements for 9 + group entities including various levels of reporting and variance analysis year over year, vs budget)
- Responsible for complete and accurate intercompany accounting and reconciliations across all entities
- Collaborate with the wider finance team to assist with annual audits of all entities within the company
- Identify, recommend, and implement strategies to continuously improve reporting and accounting for financial statement items and reduce risk
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
- Demonstrate deep understanding of control design within the role’s span of controls, including how the control is supposed to operate
- Perform the control as its designed on a timely basis, inclusive of retaining appropriate evidence (calculations, explanations, emails, preparer’s dated sign off)
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- 3+ years of experience as a Financial Accountant within a Corporate Accounting Environment
- Strong background with accruals month-end entries, tracking accruals, preparing reconciliation
- Strong systems, network management and data reporting and analytics experience is required. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics considered an asset.
- Relevant education in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or another relevant field OR equivalent work experience is required.
CPA, CMA, Master’s degree in accounting or finance related field considered a plus
Excellent interpersonal, communication skills both written and oral and ability to work with all levels of staff and management
