Position : Utility Arborist
Location : Ontario

Overview :
We are seeking a skilled Utility Arborist to join our team, specializing in the care and maintenance of trees near utility lines and infrastructure.
As a Utility Arborist , you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of trees within utility corridors, managing tree-related risks, and promoting sustainable practices.
This position requires experience in arboriculture, a strong understanding of safety regulations, and the ability to work in a dynamic outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Tree Risk Assessments & Evaluations :
Conduct regular assessments of trees in utility corridors to evaluate their health, structural integrity, and potential risk to power lines, communication cables, and other utility infrastructure.
Tree Pruning, Trimming, & Removal :
Perform pruning, trimming, and removal of trees or branches that may pose a threat to utility lines. Use proper techniques to promote healthy growth while mitigating risks.
Collaboration with Utility Companies :
Work directly with utility companies to ensure that vegetation management practices are aligned with safety standards and operational requirements.
Identify and resolve potential hazards, including tree overgrowth near power lines or service infrastructure.
Tree Health & Maintenance :
Implement best practices for tree care, such as proper pruning and thinning, to ensure long-term health and vitality of trees while minimizing interference with utilities.
Emergency Response & Storm Damage :
Respond to emergency situations such as storm damage or hazardous tree conditions that impact utility services. Perform urgent tree removal or trimming to restore service and ensure public safety.
Documentation & Reporting :
Maintain detailed records of all tree care activities, including inspections, pruning, removals, and safety inspections, to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Community Engagement & Education :
Engage with the local community and educate residents about the importance of proper tree care, utility safety, and sustainable vegetation management practices.
Compliance with Safety Protocols :
Adhere to strict safety procedures and protocols while working in utility corridors. Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with industry regulations and standards to protect both workers and the public.
Requirements :
Experience : At least 2 years of experience in arboriculture, with a focus on tree care and vegetation management in utility corridors or similar settings.
Tree Knowledge : Strong understanding of tree species, growth patterns, and proper care techniques, including the ability to assess and mitigate risks associated with trees near utility infrastructure.
Safety Standards : In-depth knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to tree care, especially in proximity to utility lines, electrical infrastructure, and other hazardous conditions.
Physical Stamina : Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments, including climbing trees and operating equipment.
Certification : Certification in arboriculture (e.g., ISA Certified Arborist) is preferred. Additional utility-specific training or certifications may be required.
Communication Skills : Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with utility companies, team members, and the community.
Adaptability : Willingness to adapt to changing environments, including responding to emergency situations, and learning new skills as industry practices evolve.
