Working in a collaborative team-based environment, the Real Estate Accountant, Treasury will be performing daily and monthly tasks and completing reporting deliverables of the Treasury group.

This position will be responsible for performing daily treasury and cash management functions. Preparation of banking activity reports identifying issues from all GWLRA managed bank accounts, for internal and external clients, and for the completion of bank reconciliations.

This position will also play a key role communicating regularly with staff and financial institutions to facilitate all banking services for GWL Realty Advisors Inc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Treasury and Cash Management

Perform the day-to-day treasury functions providing accurate information and timely service to all GWLRA and Canada Life business units.

Provide and maintain good cash management, ensure cash balances will adequately cover disbursements and sustain operations of the company and prevent overdrafts.

Duties and responsibilities include :

  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute daily cash management report.
  • Analyze and investigate significant variances in bank balances.
  • Analyze and investigate banking exception items and immediately notify the team of fraudulent item.
  • Perform daily banking notifications process and provide banking related information to respective Winnipeg and Regional teams for recording in Yardi 7S (e.

g., deposits, pre- authorized payments, account balances, zero-balancing returned items, etc.).

  • Perform daily online banking downloads for all banking activities.
  • Prepare memo for funding and investing activities.
  • Prepare and process daily internal fund transfer and wire transfer requests, using online banking platform. Ensure there is proper supporting documents and approvals for the request.

Complete the transactions while meeting the clients' and banks cut-off times.

  • Process requests for payments required for closing real estate acquisitions and confirm receipt of funds required for closing real estate dispositions.
  • Process requests for monthly cash distributions / contributions between property and legal owners.

Bank Reconciliation

Complete bank reconciliation reporting to various stakeholders monthly, ensure all reconciling items are properly documented and followed up with Winnipeg and Regional business units in a timely manner.

Duties and responsibilities include :

Perform bank reconciliations for all (200+) GWLRA managed bank accounts including compilation of supporting document and bank statements.

Expected to reconcile between 50-60 accounts within 2 weeks.

  • Perform daily banking transactions' clearing and reconciliation in the system.
  • Assist with drafting the monthly bank reconciliation memo for delivery to senior management.
  • Follow up with Winnipeg and Regional teams outstanding reconciling items and ensure these clear in a timely manner, targeting within 30 days from the date item is outstanding.
  • Escalate long outstanding items with both treasury and regional finance leads.
  • Coordinate clearing of deposits and other items in Yardi 7S with the Administration team.
  • Prepare over 90 days cheque listing for distribution to Accounts Payable and Client teams.

Other responsibilities or ad hoc requests

  • Assist with weekly cheque run and ensure there is sufficient cheque stocks in the inventory.
  • Assist with providing supporting documents and banking related information, as assigned.
  • Participate in treasury and audit projects and initiatives, as assigned.
  • Attend to other ad hoc banking related requests.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Acquired a university degree or currently pursuing a CPA or CTP designation.
  • Experience with multi-level organizational structures.
  • Experience with financial institution online banking platform or software is an asset.
  • Experience with Yardi 7S system is an asset.
  • Experience working in treasury and real estate industry as well as familiarity with Canadian banking system and rules would be a definite asset.
  • Highly analytical, with very good attention to details.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize properly and work on tight deadlines.
  • Able to work under pressure with competing priorities.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PDF, and Word, knowledge of Visual Basic Language is a plus.
  • Very good knowledge of accounting.
  • Able to manage change, can work independently or as part of a team.
