00 work hours For more information, please contact : Carla Buchanan, Director, Financial Reporting@ : - Prepares supporting schedules and reports required for monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting that are presented to the Vice-President (Administration), the Board of Governors and the Province.
- Assists the Director, Financial Reporting in the preparation of various monthly, quarterly, annual and other financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Makes recommendations for improvements to the University's internal financial reporting processes.- Supports the process for the public reporting of executive expenses.
- Conducts research on accounting standards, assesses risk and financial impact of accounting standards to the University, and provides recommendations for implementation.
- Assists in the conversion and implementation of new accounting standards as required.- Conducts financial and statistical analysis of forecasted, actual and budget information in support of internal and external reporting requirements.
- Prepares, collects and assesses forecast information for viability in support of internal and external financial reporting requirements.
- Assists the Director, Financial Reporting in managing the interim and year-end audit process.- Coordinates auditor testing and other requests, working with University finance staff at all levels to ensure auditor requests are fulfilled in a timely manner.
- Prepares year-end working papers and supporting schedules as required to support balance sheet and income statement line items, financial statement notes, and the Management Discussion and Analysis in the Annual Financial Report.
- Assists with the development of the year-end schedule.- Follows up with other finance staff on year-end tasks to ensure financial statement production and audit timelines are adhered to.
- Identifies reporting needs and collaborates with others to enhance systems and processes in support of financial reporting automation and modernization efforts.
- Participates in the planning and implementation of new systems, system upgrades or processes as required.- Participates in needs analyses for software upgrades and implementation, as required.
- Identifies reporting needs and designs reporting for integration into financial systems.- Documents and maintains written details on the University's internal controls over financial reporting.
- Conducts other internal control-related tasks or projects as required.- Assists other areas within Financial Reporting during peak times and absences.
- Trains others in new accounting standards, internal controls or processes as required.- Prepares training materials or webpage content as required.
- Prepares and updates departmental policies and procedures manuals.- Supports the University's CPA student program, as required.
- Other duties as : MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION / TRAINING : - An undergraduate degree is a related discipline is required. A major in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
- Must be enrolled in and near completion of the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP).
- A CPA designation is preferred. EXPERIENCE : - Three years of directly-related experience in advanced accounting, conducting complex financial analyses and financial reporting is required.
Experience in public practice with knowledge of fund accounting or public sector accounting standards is preferred.- Experience in preparing year-end working papers and coordinating audit activities is required.
- Experience preparing financial statements and assessing internal controls is required.- Experience conducting accounting standards research, assessing impact and risk, and providing recommendations for accounting standard implementation is preferred.
- Experience with financial reporting automation and system enhancement projects is preferred.- Experience communicating financial information to non-financial staff and faculty is required.
- Experience advising on financial best practices, policies and procedures is required.- Experience working in a complex, integrated computer and information system environment and a working knowledge of computer produced data is required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. SKILLS AND ABILITIES : - Ability to prepare complex financial information with close attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Must have the ability to analyze large volumes of information with speed, accuracy and attention to detail in order to meet strict deadlines.
Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft 365 is required. Advanced Excel skills would be preferred.- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize work and complete work in a timely manner.- Ability to work independently to investigate issues and formulate recommendations is required.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required.- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
