BWXT Medical is hiring a Facilities Engineer (Mechanical) at our production facility in Kanata, ON.
Location : On-site; 447 March Road, Kanata, ON
JOB PURPOSE :
Performs and is responsible for maintenance engineering activities supporting facility infrastructure systems. Is responsible for the planning, development and review of maintenance activities.
Develops solutions through the use of standard and modified company procedures, or methods proven through prior experience.
JOB STRUCTURE & COMMUNICATIONS :
- This position reports to the Facilities Manager.
- Makes independent decisions and initiates actions within guidelines; is expected to make recommendations for the solution of problems affecting the objectives of project.
- Interacts with site maintenance staff, external contractors, and site Landlord maintenance management.
ACCOUNTABILITIES :
- General Repair & Maintenance Engineering focuses on planning, designing and implementing maintenance programs to optimize the availability and productivity of manufacturing facilities and equipment including :
- Planning and coordinating maintenance engineering work including review of mechanical and electrical engineering specifications.
- Performing engineering review of proposed new equipment designs to assess reliability, ease of maintenance, and availability of replacement parts.
- Liaising with production staff to coordinate repair work, statutory safety inspections and supply of new plant and equipment with production schedules.
- Participating in the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Under general technical guidance, performs the following activities as appropriate :
- Develops maintenance activities related to facility systems.
- Reviews completed maintenance activities related to facility systems.
- Performs troubleshooting to support staff completing maintenance.
- Establishes and maintains the necessary interdepartmental liaison relating to projects.
- Develops schedules and plans to complete maintenance outages, and equipment replacement projects.
- Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of good records of all calculations, design studies, experiments, tests and estimates;
these may be in the form of drawings, specifications, reports or memos.
- Advises supervisor or other management of progress, costs, problems and delays with respect to individual projects.
- May be required to supervise the installation of products in the field or assist in installation or service activities.
- May work with external engineering firms to support facility infrastructure systems.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE :
Normally University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in an appropriate discipline plus 5 years relevant experience.
In some positions, a formal and recognized professional membership may be required.
- Capacity to understand, interpret and explain complex technical systems or phenomena.
- Detailed knowledge and experience in one or more pertinent disciplines, or sub-disciplines, and must have a general appreciation for, and understanding of other specialties and disciplines.
- Must be capable of working co-operatively with others, or as part of a project team.
- Must be resourceful, creative and reliable.
- Must have a good knowledge of and appreciation for Company operating policies, procedures and practices.
- Must demonstrate personal qualities of initiative, and set appropriate standards of technical performance such that the project staff is motivated to meet, or exceed project requirements.
- Must have experience working with one or more of the following systems :
- HVAC
- Compressed Air
- Water for Injection
- Clean Steam Generators
- Clean in Place and Sterilize in Place technologies

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $78,000 and $112,000 per year.
However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and / or other benefits.
