As Director, Commercialization and Partnerships, you will play a transformative role in optimizing our Faculty’s innovation and commercialization successes through the development of a new Commercialization unit that will oversee existing research translation and commercialization training programs, and new partnership development programs in support of training, business development, partnership funding opportunities and seed funds.
- Leveraging your exceptional relationship management and business development skills, you will identify and build strong partnerships with corporations, philanthropic organizations and government agencies;
- cultivate and build cross-disciplinary research collaborations; manage and promote corporate and community partnerships across the campus;
- provide strategic leadership and counsel to our decanal team on all commercialization and industry partnership activities;
and foster a culture of entrepreneurship and commercialization at Temerty Medicine.
Qualifications
- PhD degree in molecular or cellular biology, infectious disease, immunology, biomedical or biochemical engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in leading and developing commercialization and partnership programs, on behalf of a high-profile public institution
- Demonstrated success with the development and implementation of commercialization and partnership programs and strategic plans with diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience building and running a startup including accessing early-stage funding
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of contracts, intellectual property, research applications and funding opportunities
- In-depth knowledge of the intellectual property and tech-transfer offices in the commercialization landscape
- Experience developing, promoting, and delivering commercialization training and entrepreneurship initiatives for health start-ups
- Experience managing, building and influencing complex relationships with critical stakeholders across Ontario including research Hospitals, and Commercialization partners and the central University’s Intellectual Property Office.
- Experience managing multiple complex projects to completion according to established timelines
- Extensive network of investors in manufacturing, software or regulatory in the health field and familiarity with fundraising in the context of start ups
- Strong financial acumen, including financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting experience
- Demonstrated experience in successfully developing and leading teams (preferably in a unionized environment) including the ability to engage and motivate staff and project teams
- Outstanding written and oral communications skills and presentation skills.
- Ability to coach, motivate, and manage others in a highly diverse community with staff from varied backgrounds and age groups
- Ability to professionally handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
