Key Responsibilities
- Represent our London-based insurer clients in the management of litigation matters in North America (Quebec, Canada, United States).
- Review and analyze litigation matters and report to the insurers on risks and strategy (defence, settlement, etc.).
- Recommend and appoint defence lawyers who will act on our clients' behalf under the direction of the litigation management lawyer.
- Communicate clear directives and instructions to the defence lawyers.
- Work closely with the defence lawyers.
- Coordinate and manage the information received from the defence lawyers and the client.
- Maintain relations with the insurers.
- Participate in mediation sessions as an insurer representative.
- Review and analyze coverage under various policies to advise insurer clients.
- Coverage investigations and disputes, including acting as attorney of record in such disputes for insurers.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Member in good standing of a Canadian Bar Association.
- Diploma in common law and / or civil law.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in private practice or in-house, specifically in litigation or litigation management in Quebec, Canada and / or elsewhere.
- Bilingualism at fluent level, in French and English, verbally and in writing.
- Strong abilities in the preparation of high-quality written reports in English.
- Excellent analytical and synthesis skills.
- Strong sense of rigour and meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategies, present a clear plan to the client, and communicate instructions rigorously and precisely.
- Negotiating talent.
- Well-established sense of interpersonal relations.
- At ease in developing relationships of trust with clients, as well as with lawyers.
