Job Description
On behalf of a major Canadian shipyard, we are in search of a highly capable and experienced Lead Estimator for their new building activities.
In this senior position, you will be responsible for overseeing all estimating activities related to new construction projects, ensuring accurate pricing, resource allocation, and bid submissions.
Your role will be critical in developing and managing the estimating plan, engaging with key stakeholders, and supporting negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead the estimation process for New Build Projects, assigning work scopes to the estimating team.
- Review technical and contractual documents to produce precise estimates.
- Develop, manage, and secure approval for the estimating plan from the Director.
- Optimise resource costs and ensure compliance with the Basis of Estimate.
- Engage in supplier negotiations, and assess quotations for completeness and contract compliance.
- Analyse historical data to refine estimates and support standards development.
- Create delivery schedules, assess risks, and manage the cost risk register.
- Collaborate with production, ship, and project managers to align estimates with best practices.
- Present total cost analysis for internal bid approvals and ensure accurate labour charge-out rates.
- Oversee the submission of pricing and bid proposal documentation.
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in estimating within shipbuilding, ship repair, major construction, or engineering sectors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, estimating methodologies, and contracting practices.
- Advanced proficiency in estimating tools, processes, and MS Excel.
- Eligible for AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) certification.
- Bilingual in French and English, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and data connections.
- Effective leadership and team management abilities, with strong organisational and time management skills.
