Cowan Insurance Group is looking for a highly motivated Manager of Wellness and Disability to join our team! The Manager of Wellness and Disability will be responsible for participating in strategic planning activities related to Cowan’s Return to Health Disability Management and Wellness services and will be accountable for the delivery and implementation of growth and retention initiatives.

The Manager is responsible for leading and engaging a team of professional Case Managers and ensuring timely delivery of excellent service to our internal and external clients.

The Manager will be a subject matter expert in disability claims management responsible for working closely with the team to ensure the effective management of day-to-day operations.

The Manager will collaborate with the team and help lead the implementation of business strategies, ensure high levels of client satisfaction and retention and engagement of team, best practice reviews and help to drive profitability of the business unit.

What you will do :

  • Manage a team of remote Case Managers, providing coaching and guidance on complex case files and ensuring workloads are fair and are managed within service standards
  • Develop and monitor metrics to ensure the team is managing files efficiently and effectively and are supporting disabled employees through their recovery and return to work
  • Assist with escalated claim issues, appeals, as required
  • Communicate regularly with clients to ensure client satisfaction and retention
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with key clients, to understand the needs and identify new business opportunities, service delivery options or new practices
  • Attend client meetings to discuss process improvements and disability trends
  • Work with the leadership team on special projects, as required
  • Assist with the development and support of new business opportunities
  • Review disability data and costs, and provide an analytical approach to identify opportunities to drive improved claim experience
  • Work with reporting analysts to provide regular dashboard and trend reporting for clients, including recommendations for best practice improvements to manage any data trends
  • Support Group Benefit Consultants to ensure the Disability Management and Wellness offerings are clearly articulated to clients
  • Work with internal audit and training to ensure Case Managers are providing quality service and receive ongoing training on disability management best practices
  • Assists with the overall promotion and integration of wellness offerings to support clients with creating a healthier workplace

What you will bring :

  • Bilingual English and French proficiency, verbal and written, is required as we have clients across Canada
  • A minimum of 5 years of disability management experience
  • Prior experience leading and managing a team
  • University degree or post-secondary education in a health-related field an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of employment standards, WSIB / WCB / CSST, human rights, collective bargaining and labour relations with respect to disability and leave of absence management
  • Proficiency using various programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of group insurance contracts and principles
  • Background or experience in employer wellness or human resource practices an asset
  • Disability Management Professional designation an asset
  • Experience integrating different disability systems and business processes
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • Data analytical skills with the ability to interpret and report on results
  • Self-motivated and efficiency in self-directed learning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to engage and motivate remote staff
  • Strong presentation skills and a comfort presenting in front of groups of internal and external clients
  • Ability to lead teams through change management and turbulent times
  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership style with ability to support the growth of all staff
