This Toronto based organization is hiring for an in-house Legal Counsel with experience in transit / roads or other related infrastructure.

This amazing opportunity is where you can utilize your experience in contract compliance in regards to procurement, sub-contractors and employment.

In this role you will report to the General Manager and have an indirect reporting relationship to other senior officers.

This role is being looked at as an opportunity to grow and move up in responsibilities and salary in the years to come.

General Responsibilities :

  • Provide commercial-related legal advice, guidance and services to the organization on a variety of legal matters such as : contractual compliance, contract drafting & interpretation, and employment matters
  • Draft, negotiate and manage various procurement and MSA's
  • Manage sub-contractor relationships and any related claims
  • Assess, analyze and mitigate risk in accordance with organization's risk profile and level of tolerance
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures, adhering to compliance guidelines
  • Draft and issue commercial correspondence on behalf of Senior Leadership
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Parent Company's internal Legal Team
  • Communicate with external Legal counsel on key issues for additional support
  • Keep up-to-date on changes in related areas of legislation
  • Perform additional duties as required

Job Requirements :

If your background consists of the following skills and experience we would like to speak with you today.

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience practicing law in a large private practice firm and / or as an in-house counsel for a large project development organization (construction, transit, roads)
  • LLB or JD and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Experience with contract preparation and negotiation
  • Experience with employment and sub-contractor contracts
  • Previous work experience in a commercial environment is a definite asset
  • Experience in a P3 (Public Private Partnerships) environment is an asset
  • Ability to think strategically and use good judgement to provide efficient legal advice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Detail oriented and strong attention to detail
