Job Description :
Under the direction of the Chair, Academic Access Centre, the Part-time Professor is responsible for facilitating and guiding learning and providing an effective learning environment for all students.
The part-time Professor may be requested to teach any Academic Upgrading Mathematics course, up to and including those that are considered equivalent to grade 12 Math.
A mathematics assignment may be coupled with teaching DAT0110 Computer Skills. Most Academic Upgrading courses are offered on a continuous intake and exit basis where students work through set curriculum within time guidelines with the support of a teacher.
The teaching of assigned courses includes :
- Ensuring student awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques;
- Providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources including educational technologies;
- Evaluating student progress / achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student’s work within assigned courses;
- Developing and creating of a learning environment that is conducive to success for all students and;
Following Academic Upgrading program policies
Required Qualifications
Minimum four (4) year Degree in Mathematics or a related field of study.
Bachelor of Education or other teaching certification preferred
Experience teaching Math.
Experience teaching adults and the proven ability to advise students in their academic and career pursuits is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of student success strategies in an educational setting.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of educational technologies.
Highly effective communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated skill in Algonquin College’s preferred teaching competencies as set out in the Professor of the 21st Century document : .
Evidence of commitment to the success of all learners and the ability to engage a very diverse classroom.
