Director, Emergency Services and Patient Flow

CHEO is seeking a strong clinical leader to fill the key role of Director, Emergency Services and Patient Flow.

Reporting to the VP, Acute Care Services, the Director will be responsible for managing and overseeing daily clinical, administrative, and human resource activities for the Emergency Department services including trauma, the sexual assault team, and patient flow ensuring the delivery of high-quality care in a patient and family-centred setting.

They will be instrumental in defining a clear vision for how to leverage changes in healthcare and best practices to improve clinical and patient and family satisfaction and strengthen health outcomes.

The Director will monitor the Emergency Services and Patient Flow operations plan in alignment with the CHEO strategic plan.

They lead the planning, development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of specific work plans, resources, and services to be aligned with the strategies agreed to by CHEO’s leadership team.

The Director will define and manage the budget, including both revenues and expenses in alignment with hospital and provincial policies and best-practices, as well as oversee the development and submission of proposals.

They will identify and prioritize opportunities for growth and represent CHEO at provincial and national forums as required.

The Director will develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to enhance care, balancing medical and administrative perspectives with sound leadership.

They will work in close collaboration with families, medical directors, clinical leaders, and front-line staff championing the enhancement and innovation of patient care.

They foster a culture built on respect, trust, wellbeing, and life-long learning and promote education, teaching, and research activities.

As the ideal candidate, you possess eight (8) years of relevant experience, including five (5) years’ experience in a management / leadership role or other evidence of outstanding relevant abilities and accomplishments.

You have experience in a hospital organization and health care delivery system, ideally in a high acuity hospital environment.

You have knowledge of Lean methodology, as well as PHIPPA privacy and security requirements. You are an inspiring leader with a proven ability to motivate and empower employees in a complex, transformative environment with multiple stakeholders.

You are known for your exceptional interpersonal skills that allow you to cogently communicate, motivate, and present to staff in all departments and levels, and to foster an inclusive environment that achieves results by valuing, supporting, and rewarding collaboration.
