People & Culture Assistant Summer Student

We are currently seeking a People & Culture Assistant to join our People & Culture Team for the summer. If you have a passion for providing an exemplary HR experience and want to work in a fast paced environment this opportunity is for you! The People & Culture Assistant will work within the People & Culture Department providing both recruitment and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assists with the recruitment process by creating job postings, scheduling phone, video and in-person interviews with hiring managers;
  • Performs a range of administrative duties often involving material of a confidential nature.
  • Assists with preparing and developing HR correspondence including employment verification letters and other employee correspondence;
  • Acts as a front line resource for all employee inquiries and actively manages the HR mailbox and assigns / forwards correspondence to the appropriate team member;
  • Responsible for the maintenance of employment records in the HRIS, ensuring complete accuracy, confidentiality and compliance with by-laws and other regulatory bodies;
  • Acts as minute taker at Labour Management Committee meetings;
  • Responsible for all HR filing as needed;
  • Participates in the OH&S Committee as the P&C representative;

Qualified candidates will posses :

  • A minimum of one year’s post-secondary education in Human Resources or related field of study;
  • One year’s experience in Human Resources;
  • One year’s experience in an office environment;
  • Experience working with Human Resources Information Management Systems and Applicant Tracking Systems;
  • Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills;
  • Demonstrated effective time management and organization skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to act with discretion and maintain confidentiality;
  • Computer literacy in Power Point, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, E-mail and internet applications including Zoom;
  • Proven problem-solving abilities, adaptable, and exercises good judgment.

Preference will be given to candidates who also posses :

  • CPHR or working towards designation;
  • Experience within a unionized environment;
  • A second language.

A criminal record check is required as a part of this process.
