Job Summary :
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor install, replace, update and maintain all Board plumbing, provide support for the Board plumbing operation, work with / assist other trades and supervise part time help.
Major Duties :
1. Install, replace, update and maintain all Board plumbing
Includes water fixtures, piping and connections for washrooms, classrooms and furnace rooms, special function rooms; septic tanks, wells, roof drains, water pump systems, cooling towers (refrigeration), stand pipes (fire), computerized energy conservation systems, etc.
Maintain, replace and / or repair plumbing fixtures, piping and connections that have worn out or have been vandalized.
Retrofitting and upgrading : install new fixtures, connections and piping in renovated washrooms, special function rooms, classrooms, furnace and boiler rooms and Board buildings.
Plan and install plumbing for special function rooms for multi-handicapped students.
Computerized energy management : install systems, program, monitor to ensure that the existing installation and equipment can stand the additional stress and workload.
Inspect and report on potable water quality and ensure appropriate testing and precautions are taken
Inspect, monitor and repair domestic water backflow prevention devices
Monitor and report all materials and equipment required for Board plumbing operation to ensure a safe environment in all facilities.
2. Maintain Heating Systems
Perform yearly and ongoing maintenance, testing and correction of all apsects of heat exchangers, boiler rooms, heating equipment and piping systems in schools and other Board buildings
Boiler inspection and maintenance - open up boilers and inspect, cut out and replace piping, tubing and pressure reducing valves as required
3. Maintain Sprinkler Systems
Perform repairs and maintenance to sprinkler piping and system heads
4. Maintain Computers / Electronics
Maintain and repair electronic devices which operate boilers, furnaces and plumbing fixtures
5. Work with / assist other trades as required
Work in conjunction with other trades (H.V.A.C. Mechanic, Electrician, Carpenter, etc.) to coordinate projects to completion
6. Supervise part-time help
Supervise co-op students and summer workers, including assigning work and giving instructions and directions.
7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Equipment Used :
Plumbing tools : power augers, acetylene torches, electric welding equipment, pumps, acid pumps, assorted wrenches and cutting tools, ladders, scaffolding, vacuum, cleaners, gas leak detection equipment, electric drain cleaning equipment, large air compressor, truck / van
Other : kango guns, hoisting equipment, jacks, cherry pickers.
Qualifications :
1. Secondary School Diploma and completion of plumbing apprenticeship
2. Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Gas Fitter / G1 as issued under the Technical Safety and Standards Act;
3. Valid Drivers' License
4. Familiarity with W.H.M.I.S., Occupational Health and Safety regulations, fire regulations, building codes, Department of Health regulations, plumbing codes and general knowledge of other trades.
5. The ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and public.
This is a 40 hour per week, afternoon position.
