Reports To : EVP, Risk and Compliance

Position Summary : The Director, Data Governance is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of data governance strategies, policies, and procedures within the organization.

The role is critical in ensuring that CAPREIT's data is accurate, reliable, accessible, and secure.

Responsibilities :

Data Governance & Policy :

  • Establish a data governance framework;
  • Develop a data strategy for the business;
  • Formalize data governance committee and roles;
  • Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures that align with CAPREIT’s objectives and goals;
  • Establish processes to ensure that data is managed in compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Define roles and responsibilities for data governance across different departments and business units;
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that data is integrated across different business systems and platforms;
  • Develop training programs to educate employees on data governance policies and best practices;
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities to enhance data governance practices;

Data Collection, Identification & Definition :

  • Identify key business critical processes and establish ownership for each line of business
  • Identify and catalogue the process behaviours (email, system, paper, etc.)
  • For each key business critical process, identify key critical datasets used by each line of business
  • Establish definition for certain key terms and create enterprise glossary

Data Quality :

  • Score datasets through a calculated approach to measure data readiness (completeness, accuracy, conformity, integrity)
  • Develop controls to monitor data quality and integrity throughout the organization.
  • Design strategies to ensure that data is captured, stored, and transmitted in a secure and compliant manner

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Records Management, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of data governance policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with different business systems and platforms.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with different departments and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing projects
