Job Description
This role performs analysis and coding of the Notes to File (NTF) written by Physician Advisors after a medical-legal advice call.
This role reviews the content of NTFs to identify the main medical-legal categories and subcategories and then captures the information into the corporate data repository (via SugarCRM) for future analysis.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Review content of notes to files, with particular focus on the identification of physician, team, system, and medico-social factors which are impacting the physician.
- Synthesize all relevant components of the case, by composing a concise and accurate summary.
- Identify from the notes to file, the relevant categories and subcategories from the medical-legal taxonomy
- Review other specific data elements of the Advice Case for data enhancement and quality assurance purposes
- Once training and onboarding are complete, review approximately 40-50 notes to file each day
- Capture all relevant information into the SugarCRM data capture system
- Participate regularly in quality assurance and quality improvement activities related to the data capture
- Actively participate in team meetings to discuss the new and novel issues arising from the notes to file
- Suggest improvements to data capture, the medical-legal taxonomy, data analysis and reporting when possible
Qualifications and Skills
- Understanding of the Canadian Healthcare System
- Understanding of the Canadian medical-legal system
- Experience in data entry, quality assurance and quality improvement processes
- Experience with research methodologies, data analysis, data visualization, and / or knowledge translation
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Proficiency in English
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to think analytically with a high attention to detail
Nice-to-Haves
- Health Records or Health Information Management (HIM) designation or certificate or related experience.
- 2-3 years medical office or hospital experience; ideally coding experience in both hospital inpatient and outpatient setting.
