The opportunity
Canadian Division Integrated Financial Solutions (CDIFS) is a customer-focused team that provides professional, technical, and operational support to the Canadian Division Finance function.
The team analyzes, develops, and maintains efficient, cost effective and controlled systems solutions for Finance using Manulife's enterprise-wide tools.
CDIFS plays a role in divisional financial control oversight, and supports projects and initiatives to develop, enhance and monitor finance systems and applications.
Collaborating with the Manager, Financial System Services, the incumbent must lead the analysis, creation, development and support of high quality, cost-effective solutions for Finance teams using Manulife enterprise-wide tools.
The Senior Financial Systems Analyst must understand complex finance and reporting requirements and develop technical solutions to meet Canadian Segment Finance business needs.
The incumbent will serve as a role model and mentor for peers and junior team members by sharing knowledge and providing honest and timely feedback while inspiring others to be engaged in the tasks and projects.
The incumbent will research technology trends and make recommendations as to techniques, practices and tools used within the CDIFS team.
Systems Management & Support
- Work with internal business partners to design and develop complex applications and tools that present the results to the end-user in a manner that contributes and meets finance functions business requirements.
- Proactively look for new and unique technical opportunities to streamline finance processes and improve data quality and controls.
- Provide strong technical and analytical support to Project Leads related to the tools and applications created and maintained by CDIFS.
- Support the business and systems requirements related to CDIFS.
- Provide recommended project resource and schedule estimates to leader and track to actuals.
- Work with leaders within CDIFS to recommend and implement technical solutions to drive business strategy and create process efficiencies.
- Review Business Requirements, Systems Specifications and Testing documents and provide recommendations to manager for approval.
- Due to the complexity of business applications, the Senior Developer requires expert technical knowledge to understand what is required for the end-user.
- Support required audit evidence to verify the output of systems applications.
- Research, review and advise on technology tools / platforms for solution development testing and user support with CDIFS.
- Provide after-hours support when required in exceptional circumstances.
Application Development
- Analyze business requirements to develop the technical requirements, define scope and design software / reporting solutions.
- Interact / negotiate with IS for extracts that are not currently available to support reporting needs.
- Prepare technical specifications, test plans, change requests forms and maintain all documentation.
- Develop, test, and deploy changes and enhancements to the applications within the production environment.
- Provide User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Steady State support.
Continuous Improvement
- Play a significant role in achieving process improvement goals and standard methodologies in Finance.
- Look for and analyze problems / process inefficiencies autonomously.
- Demonstrate commitment towards continuously updating knowledge and skills.
Customer Service
- Resolve customer service issues and escalate to leader appropriate.
- Build effective relationships and establish a prominent level of credibility within CDIFS.
- Identify and recommend refinements and improvements to service offerings.
- Deliver tools and reports that align with customer expectations for accuracy, consistency, quality, and timeliness.

What we are looking for
- BCom with MIS major or Computer Science degree or comparable education with 5+ years of experience in a Consultant / Programmer / Analyst type role.
- University Degree or equivalent experience or College Diploma in related field.
- Demonstrated leadership talents to inspire, engage and provide guidance to team members.
- Extensive experience in Data Transformation Tools in ETL Capacity (SAS, SQL).
- Excellent knowledge of Excel, VBA, Power Query.
- Experience with BI Reporting tools is an asset (Power BI).
- Knowledge of Alteryx, IBM TM1 / Planning Analytics, and / or Salesforce is an asset.
- Strong business acumen with ability to communicate complex concepts and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner (written and verbal).
- Strong oral / written communication skills required to interact with senior officers and representatives from other divisions and functional departments.
- Initiative to explore innovative ideas and the ability to motivate others to accept progress and change.
- Good interpersonal and relationship building skills as well as negotiation and influencing skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly when using sound, independent judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Working knowledge of project management principles.

Salary & Benefits
The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Waterloo, Ontario
Salary range is expected to be between
$67,275.00 CAD - $112,125.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education / training.
