Job description

The Purchasing Specialist plays a key role in assisting the operations team with the procurement of materials, supplies, and services at the best possible terms for the organization. This includes tracking orders, monitoring vendor quality, and keeping an up-to-date vendor database. The role also involves preparing purchase orders and confirming the receipt of goods. The specialist contributes to various projects and provides support across different operational functions.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Safety : Foster a strong safety culture and manage the purchase of safety-related supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Production : Oversee supplier relationships, generate purchase orders, manage inventory, ensure supplier commitments are upheld, and work closely with planning and scheduling teams.
  • Quality : Address supplier-related issues, ensure compliance with industry standards like BRC, FDA, CTPAT, and ISO, and communicate any disruptions in the supply chain.
  • Other Duties : Provide backup support for the planning department and assist with additional tasks as required.

Qualifications :

  • A high school diploma is required; college education is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with SAP systems and experience in manufacturing or packaging is preferred.
  • Strong skills in teamwork, communication (both verbal and written), time management, problem-solving, and organizational tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel is required.
  • This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the supply chain, contributing to meeting production goals and maintaining high standards of quality.
