A keen interest in applying your knowledge and skills to address complex challenges in Western Canada and the North is essential.

Familiarity with provincial, territorial, and federal regulatory requirements is necessary. This opportunity offers significant potential for career advancement, allowing the successful candidate to engage directly with clients and regulators. You will be part of a larger environmental regulatory and permitting team, joining an extensive network of global environmental and social experts.

This posting is tailored for a motivated, career-oriented individual who thrives on problem-solving and collaborating within a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Lead the preparation of local, provincial, and federal permitting documents.
  • Contribute to the development of permitting deliverables, taking on roles that range from lead technical author to quality reviewer.

  • Oversee multiple projects as a project manager or task manager to ensure they align with client scope, budget, and schedule expectations, while maintaining high-quality standards for project deliverables.
  • Prepare proposals by developing detailed technical scopes and cost estimates and engage in business development with existing clients and potential leads. Cultivate client relationships to foster repeat business.
  • Collaborate with other ERM Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) practitioners to implement projects, which encompass services such as : baseline data collection, siting and routing, environmental impact assessment(s), land use planning, facility siting and permitting, and risk assessment.
  • Supervise and mentor junior- and mid-level consulting staff, enhancing their skill sets through effective delegation, and training in technical planning and regulatory processes.
  • Establish strong collaborative relationships with ERM employees at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Support oversight on IAP initiatives and activities such as tool, template, or collaboration development as identified by Team Leaders and Partners.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, ecology, or environmental sciences is required. Or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years (5-10 years preferred) of experience in the resource development industry, particularly in consulting for private-sector clients.
  • A high level of technical competence and a comprehensive understanding of biological field assessment and permitting practices are essential, along with a solid grasp of the key biological impact assessment and management issues related to land development projects, such as wetland delineations, protected species assessments, and stormwater management.
  • An understanding of the environmental effects associated with mining, oil and gas, energy transition, or renewable developments is necessary.
  • Expertise in Canadian federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and guidelines is also required.
  • Experience in environmental assessment and planning, particularly the execution of full life-cycle environmental services or similar work for capital projects, will be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, field planning and coordination, progress reporting, and budget oversight is important.
  • Candidates should demonstrate well-developed team building and influencing skills, along with unquestioned integrity and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.
  • A proven track record in building and sustaining relationships with major clients is essential, as is the ability to work seamlessly as part of a team.
  • Strong writing, communication, presentation, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Recognition for technical expertise and an established reputation in the local marketplace, including the ability to cultivate a positive rapport with local land use staff, is highly valued.
  • A positive outlook, collaborative spirit, and a commitment to the success of ERM as a global company are crucial.
  • A strong commitment to safety, including adherence to established health and safety protocols, is expected.
  • For the Managing Consultant, Environmental Impact Assessment and Permitting position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $86,197 – $100,284 (CAD). An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.
