Reporting to the Director of Environmental Utilities, the Manager of Field Operations provides direct and indirect oversight of 52 employees to ensure the safe and efficient operation, installation, maintenance and repair of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position serves as the certified operator responsible for water distribution and wastewater collection, ensuring compliance with Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) operating approvals!

Your key responsibilities

  • Oversees the construction, installation, maintenance, and inspection of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and fully compliant with legislative requirements and operating licenses.
  • Leads Field Operations staff, cultivating a positive and high-performing work environment.
  • Develops and implements water distribution and wastewater collection systems strategic plans and budgets.
  • Provides project management and contract administration of capital projects for related infrastructure.

What you bring

  • Proven experience in strategic business planning, execution, and management, including successfully developing and implementing approved business plans
  • Thorough working knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures, operations, equipment and regulations for municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, organizational, customer service and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a safety culture, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, implementing best practices, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks
  • Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Eight (8) years of directly related experience including five (5) years in a management capacity.
  • Member in good standing with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (APEGA).
  • Alberta Environmental Protection Level 4 Certificates in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • A combination of equivalent management approved education, training and experience may be considered
