The Edmonton Police Service requires a supervisor to assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Police Report Classification Unit (PRCU). This position will also liaise with other areas within EPS and with numerous external clients. Duties will include :
- Managing operations within PRCU to achieve efficient uninterrupted service delivery and efficient operational coordination with industry partners and internal / external EPS stakeholders.
- Ensuring PRCU provides responsive and responsible information and service to Canadian Center for Justice and Community Safety Statistics (CCJCSS) in accordance with Federal Legislation while maintaining multiple policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations.
- Managing police case files to ensure all investigative and administrative processes are complete and accurate in the Records Management System (RMS).
- Providing leadership for a team of Police Report Classifiers including the planning, prioritization and coordination of work assignments.
- Reviewing, approving, and managing staffing schedules, including reviewing extra pay claims prior to sending to the Staff Sergeant / Section Manager for approval.
- Setting performance goals, monitoring progress, supervising performance management activities, and providing reports on staff performances.
- Meets regularly with the National Data Manager Committee to discuss legislative changes, requests from Police Information and Statistics Committee (POLIS), changes implemented by POLIS and voting on upgrades and / or changes to the UCR manual.
- Working with the Policy Management Unit to determine policy and procedures required to achieve the goals and objectives of PRCU, while maintaining CCJCSS’s strict requirements.
- Performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements
Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.Additional courses, certifications in Police Studies, Information Management or Business Administration would be an asset.A Criminal Justice Diploma / Degree would be an asset.Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in leading and supervising a medium to large work group.Three (3) years’ experience in the areas of the Criminal Justice System, Information Management and / or Uniform Crime Reporting.Proficiency with computer programs, including the Microsoft Office suite.Experience in police related data bases such as NicheUA / RMS, CPIC, JOIN would be an asset.Strong understanding of Statistics Act.Strong understanding of statistical data.Experience in interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.Knowledge of Uniform Crime Reporting.Extensive knowledge of law enforcement operations, practices and court documents (i.e. restraining orders, warrants, probation orders).Superior written and verbal communication skills, with strong decision-making ability.Possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders in a team orientated environment.Clear understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada, City of Edmonton Bylaws, Provincial Acts and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP).Strong problem solving, analytical and negotiation skills.Completion of leadership training would be considered an asset.Applicants may be tested.As part of your pre-hire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. 40 hours per week, day shift (Monday – Friday).
Salary Range :
21B, Salary Grade : 018, $33.943 - $42.466 (Hourly), $2,715.40 - $3,397.30 (Biweekly), $70,872.98 - $88,669.01 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
