DESCRIPTION Michels Canada is looking for a Construction Manager – Microtunneling (MT). The Construction Manager – MT will direct the activities of field workers concerned with microtunneling construction projects by setting up the strategic goals in coordination with Project Managers to execute on them. The successful candidate will be performing a wide range of tasks and support business priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position will be based in Edmonton or Calgary. RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions. Manage all microtunneling and associated civil construction activities on-site to maintain targeted / scheduled production within budget. Supervise foreman and assigned crews and work with Project or Divisional Director to recruit, select, hire, and terminate field employees as required. Assist foreman with scheduling work, crews, tools, and equipment for efficiency and to minimize travel time. Responsible for regular maintenance on, and the appearance of all equipment. Work with PM to update schedule. Manage materials, tools, and supplies at the field level. Participate in planning field execution strategies with respect to job setup, traffic control plans, inversion direction, bypass design, setup, and operation, installation method, cure method, and cure time. Review production schedules along with work in progress and take corrective action to maintain profitability, and report work in progress promptly and accurately; approve pay sheets, vendor invoices and daily field reports. Schedule, coordinate, and oversee subcontractors. Track project expenditures and assist with monthly cost projections. Assist project managers with bid projects, including sharing innovative cost-saving ideas. Identify changes in project scope and / or conditions. Assist Project Manager in processing change orders. Develop and deploy mitigation tactics to eliminate claims from homeowners and businesses. Perform training needs analyses for field personnel and provide recommendations for skills improvement and cross training. Process submittals for assigned projects for owner’s approval. Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS 12 years of experience working as a Construction Manager for large general contractors focused on MicroTunneling for water / sewer infrastructure. Ability to understand and work with engineering and technical drawings as well as project schedules. Strong working experience in MicroTunneling projects. Flexibility to travel when required up to 50%. Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven. DESIRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Experience with : Primavera, HCSS (Heavy Job), and Microsoft Project. EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience PMP certification. LANGUAGES Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
