Parkland County has temporary, full-time, summer positions available in the Agriculture & Environment Services Department for Agricultural Field Inspectors (Weed Inspectors). Reporting to the Supervisor, Agronomics, these positions will assist in the County’s weed and crop inspection programs performing duties including : weed and insect identification; conducting field inspections and surveys on private and public land within Parkland County; communicating with residents to promote programming and enhance relationships with Agriculture & Environment Services and Parkland County residents; assisting with the delivery of extension programs by providing residents with information on weed and crop pests; performing duties of an Inspector appointed under the Weed Control Act and Agricultural Pest Act. The ideal candidate would have the following : Current enrollment or completion of post-secondary education in Agriculture or a related field. Knowledge of the Weed Control and Agricultural Pests Act would be an asset. Experience with plant, weed and crop disease identification. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Upon hire, a current Driver’s Abstract must be provided. Knowledge of computer applications and familiar with the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the ability to navigate using the Alberta Township Survey system. Ability to maintain accurate and legible reports. Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain an effective, tactful service-oriented relationship with the public including de-escalation skills.
