The Role :

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for implementing health & safety programs and policies, as well as providing support to the EMS (Environmental Management System).

Responsibilities : Health & Safety

  • Provide support / advisory role for the development of an OHS culture among all managers / employees.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of various OHS programs, policies, procedures and tools.
  • Regularly inspects workplaces and work methods to ensure compliance with safety rules.
  • Create and maintain risk analysis and propose preventive measures.
  • Conducts workplace accident investigations and analyses in conjunction with managers and ensures that the necessary corrective and preventive measures are applied.
  • Hold the health & safety committee on a scheduled basis and discuss any issues and provide corrective actions.
  • Participates and collaborates with administrative bodies during inspections or investigations (CNESST, fire departments, CIUSS, etc.).
  • Ensures that all mandatory OHS training is completed for all employees and, if necessary, provides the required training.
  • Collaborates with external organizations (e.g. firefighters, police, rescue teams, Hazmat response, etc.) to promote open communications, prepare response plans and ensure comprehensive support in the event of an HSE emergency.
  • Ensures compliance with plant equipment safety standards.
  • Establish an Emergency Measures Plan (EMP) and annual drills, essential for each workplace to prepare employees for emergencies such as fires, natural disasters (floods, earthquakes), spills and medical emergencies. The emergency plan must be reviewed and tested at least once a year.
  • Performs all other related tasks.
  • Environment

  • Act as a point of contact for local, provincial, state or federal regulatory groups outside and within the organization.
  • Provide environmental regulatory compliance support / advisory role and report findings, concerns and deficiencies.
  • Support environmental data collection and reporting for the organization's activities.
  • Support in the various annual declarations for the Montreal site.
  • Support and maintain ISO 14001 certification and participate in audits and inspections
  • Participate in environmental training, as required - Waste management and best practices and other items identified during routine audits
  • Participate waste management plans for the organization's activities and identify possible reception facilities and control the movement of waste and disposal.
  • Qualifications

  • 3-5 years' experience in health and safety in a manufacturing environment
  • University degree in occupational health and safety.
  • Bilingual in French and English, due to contact with our facilities outside the province of Quebec.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 & 14001, certified internal auditor (an asset).
  • Good knowledge of environmental and OHS regulations.
  • Excellent synthesis and communication skills.
  • Decision-making.
  • Organization, priority management.
